Your kids will love your old tools for practice and playing with it. Kids are usually creative and they will do something to your tool without even thinking that it would work – but they usually find something to use it.

Throwing them away makes me feel a little bit sad for the tools. For me, I would donate them first, if no charity accepts, scrapping is my last resort. I also try recycling them first, instead of scrapping them right away.
