opened it up. Sensor can be checked with a multimeter. Mine was out of spec. Soldered in a new sensor for ~$4 and it’s been running another 2 years on it.
thick sauce trick: start with water on the bottom of the pot (a full cup), then add in your protein of choice and finally the thick sauce/liquid that floats on top of the protein. Do NOT stir. When its cooked simply stir it all together at the end.

the layering trick actually works but people also tend to forget about the sugar content in jar sauces. Sugar tends to char/scorch in the pot MUCH faster than homemade sauces. Check the label to see if it contains sugar (should be near the top of ingredients listed).
